  • Go on regular walks. Walking and other low impact exercises, such as swimming or stationary biking, will speed your recovery and improve your overall health. If you feel increased soreness, apply a cold pack in the hip.
  • Sleep with a pillow between your knees. This will keep your legs aligned properly and will reduce stress on your joints.
  • Monitor your surgery wound. Increased redness or soreness could indicate infection.
  • Control your weight. Reduced weight will reduce stress on the hip replacement. Every pounds of weight equals three pounds of stress on the hip.
